HIM AGAIN
"The plan was that when I finally returned home, it would be like a hero. As if I had won the World Cup in soccer and been a lunar astronaut at the same time. I would land by private plane, and the people would cheer and cheer. But the city is not exactly ready with garlands and balloons, so to speak. I arrived by scheduled flight to Helganes, on Christmas Eve 1986, to pouring rain."
1986 marks the year when Festiviteten was rebuilt after the fire. It is also the year when Haugesund Teater was founded as a state-funded project theatre. As a tribute to this rain-swept saltwater town in southwest Norway – and the people who live here – we have asked another Rogalin resident, Rolf Kristian Larsen, to write our anniversary performance. The whole thing is accompanied by really good music from Haugalandet, in a timely manner.
It's the mid-80s, and Eddie (or Endre, as he's really called) has just returned from Manchester. He's a street musician – or troubadour, as he calls himself – and has been away for 5 years. The plan was to become a kind of Elton John, but now he's back again. The city looks the same, except for this building that burned down and was rebuilt, with the pub where Oddny serves beer, beans and bacon.
Eddie and Oddny – almost like Romeo and Juliet.
