The 1950s: Tor Inge Vormedal
The 1950s were the first decade in a long time where there was peace and work for everyone. With the help of buses, boats and bridges, the region was more closely connected. The rationing of many important goods ended and in the countryside the horse was replaced by the tractor. Towards the end of the decade, the herring disappeared and serious diseases such as poliomyelitis and tuberculosis were eradicated. The working hours were 48 hours per week and the word Saturdays off first appeared in 1959.
