The 1960s were an important decade for our region, with the construction of an all-season road over Haukelifjell, municipal mergers and the establishment of Alnor/Hydro being some of the highlights. In the 1960s, we went from seven-year elementary school to nine-year primary school. Pop groups appeared like mushrooms and beauty pageants were held at Indre kai in Haugesund in the summers with scantily clad young girls.
